Collection: Sanitation

Nobody puts sanitation on their emergency list until the water goes off — then it's suddenly the whole list. Portable toilets and sanitation supplies keep a household civilised through water outages, burst mains, festivals, camping trips and house renovations alike.

Portable and camping toilets

From simple bucket-style camping toilets with snap-on seats to flushing cassette toilets, the right option depends on how long and how many. For a home backup, a compact folding toilet plus a supply of double-lined bags and gelling powder stores in a cupboard and deploys in a minute.

The rest of the kit

Toilet chemicals or bio gel, heavy-duty sacks, hand sanitiser and wet wipes finish the job — and a stored water supply covers hand-washing when the taps don't. It's the least glamorous collection in the shop and the one people thank us for most.

Sanitation FAQs

What happens to toilets when the water supply is off?

You get one flush per cistern, then nothing. A portable toilet, or lining the bowl with a double bag and gelling powder, keeps things hygienic until the mains return.

How do portable camping toilets work?

Bucket styles use liners with absorbent powder; cassette toilets flush into a sealed tank you empty at a disposal point. Both are odour-managed with the right chemicals.

How many sanitation bags should I store?

Plan on 2–3 per person per day; a family pack of 50 covers a household for the standard 72-hour window with margin.

Is a water outage really likely?

Burst mains and contamination notices happen somewhere in the UK most weeks — usually short, occasionally days. The kit costs little and stores small.
